Uji Tea

Uji tea from Kyoto is world-renowned, and for those who have traveled to Kyoto, it is almost certain that they have experienced the exquisite taste of this exceptional tea.

99.9% of People Have Never Tasted Real Uji Matcha — Here’s Why.

Unfortunately, due to the limited production capacity in Kyoto’s small tea-growing regions, the supply of authentic Uji tea cannot keep up with its high demand.

To address this shortage, a law was established allowing Uji tea produced in Kyoto to be blended with tea from three surrounding prefectures—Mie, Shiga, and Nara. As long as the blend contains even 1% more Kyoto-grown Uji tea than the other teas, it can legally be sold as Uji Tea.

An astonishing 99% of the Uji tea sold as souvenirs in Kyoto is actually a blended tea, not pure Uji-grown tea.

To further increase production, most tea farmers heavily apply chemical fertilizers and pesticides, accelerating growth unnaturally and harvesting four to five times per year.

Bringing You 100% Pure Organic Uji Tea

With 99% of Uji tea being a blend—and even the remaining 1% often cultivated using pesticides and chemical fertilizers—truly organic Uji tea is exceedingly rare.

At Phenimax, we take pride in offering an ultra-rare, 100% pure organic Uji tea, crafted with the utmost dedication to quality and sustainability.

Phenimax Tea Grown in the Pristine Mountains at 500m Elevation

In the limited farmland of Kyoto, the only way to escape pesticide drift from surrounding tea farms is to cultivate tea in the remote mountains.

Phenimax tea is cultivated in a secluded mountain sanctuary, nestled beyond winding paths where even cars cannot pass.

Grown at high altitudes without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides, Phenimax tea matures slowly, allowing nature to take its course. As a result, we harvest only once a year.

This patience and dedication yield an exceptionally fragrant, full-bodied, and exquisitely refined Uji tea—a true embodiment of premium quality.

Fully Harnessing the Power of Nature

Uji became renowned for its tea in part due to its naturally ideal soil for cultivation.

At this estate, we rely on only minimal organic fertilizers—using seed meal and compost made from removed weeds. Rather than excessive intervention, we harness the inherent power of the mountain’s soil to its fullest, allowing nature to nurture each tea plant to perfection.

Phenimax is the only place where you can experience the distinctive taste and aroma of Uji tea as it was 1,200 years ago.
