Important Usage Instructions

Please read carefully.

Nambu iron kettles and pots are crafted with exceptional care, featuring a high-temperature firing process called kamayaki, which creates a protective ferric oxide coating on the surface. The exterior is finished with a rust-resistant lacquer blended with rice paste, ensuring durability while enhancing its aesthetic appeal. To preserve the quality and longevity of your kettle, please follow these usage guidelines:

Initial Use

・Before using the kettle for the first time, rinse the interior a few times with water.

・Boil water 2–3 times, discarding the water after each boil. From the third boil onward, the water should be clear and safe for drinking.

・After each use, transfer any remaining water to another container, remove the lid, and allow the interior to dry using residual heat.

・Do not leave water or tea inside the kettle for extended periods, as this may cause rust.

Internal Care

・After about a week of use, red spots (iron oxide) may appear inside the kettle. After two weeks, white scale (mineral deposits) may form. These are natural characteristics of iron kettles and are harmless.

・The unique anti-rust treatment (kanki-dome) protects the kettle and ensures its longevity.

・Avoid scrubbing the interior with brushes or abrasive materials, as this may damage the protective coating and lead to rust.

Exterior Maintenance

・Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth to maintain its appearance.

・For best results, lightly wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth while the kettle is still warm to achieve a natural sheen.

Avoiding Thermal Shock

・Never pour cold water into a heated, empty kettle or immerse a hot kettle in water, as this may cause cracking.

・Allow the kettle to cool naturally and dry it thoroughly using residual heat.

Lid Positioning

・When boiling water, leave the lid slightly ajar to allow steam to escape.

Pouring Water

・When pouring hot water, hold the lid in place with a cloth while tilting the kettle.

・Be cautious, as the handle and lid may become hot during use.

Avoiding Damage

・If the handle or lid becomes loose, avoid applying force, as this may cause further damage.

Long-Term Storage

・Before storing the kettle for an extended period, ensure the interior is thoroughly dried.

・Store the kettle in a well-ventilated area to prevent moisture buildup. Avoid storing it near stoves or under sinks to protect it from oil splatters, humidity, and rust.
